I already shared my exciting news with you– I wrote and published a paperback book! SMART Reflections: A Reflective Goal-Setting Workbook for Educators is available on Amazon. You might be quick to judge and think that a workbook isn’t a real book, that a workbook doesn’t count towards a publishing goal. Well, I beg to differ with you. Let me list out a few reasons why I wrote this workbook and how it came to fruition.
What’s the book about? That’s easy enough to answer. Click HERE to read my post that shares the details of the book.
When and how did this happen? Well, I was putting worksheets together for TeachersPayTeachers. I decided the learning curve for selling on that website was too steep for my current situation (7 months pregnant and in my 3rd year of my PhD). So, I compiled all my stellar drafts of worksheets related to reflective practice, goal-setting, time management, communication, and other related topics into a single document. I quickly learned the basics of formatting a paperback for Amazon and set aside time for reviewing, rewriting, and revising my new workbook. With some encouragement from my friends, I got more than my feet wet as I dove head first into the world of self-publishing on Amazon.
Why a workbook and not a real book? That’s also easy enough to answer! I love open-ended questions that encourage critical thinking and ignite curiosity. I want my readers to engage in collaborative discussions with their colleagues. My thoughts, my words aren’t the only thoughts and words; my words can be used to guide a discussion, but then I want my readers to think for themselves and fill in the blanks (literally) as they navigate the text. Besides, a workbook is a real book!
How is this book unique? What makes it special? Every word on every page is intentional. Every border and box and feature of the book is intentional. Every page designed for reflecting and/or doodling is intentional. There’s your answer: Intent. Take a look for yourself. You’ll realize exactly what I mean when I say this book was written intentionally– for you! What makes this special? It is a product of my passion. It is a product of my purpose. I desire to facilitate intentional living through reflection and personal and professional growth in others. What else? No rushed deadline. No publishers pushing their preferences on me. No editor doing the fine-tuning for me. This workbook was written, designed, formatted and published just for you!
